Ah, the radio - the one-time powerful distributor of popular taste, superseded by an even more powerful league of streaming services - has always been, and hopefully always will continue to be, the only truly free form of media. All you need is to swing by a thrift shop and a few bucks later, you have access to voices around the world, but more importantly from your community (now usually via college, community, and other non-comm formats who do not have their playlists assigned from on high).

I LOVED my time (a year and a half) in which I put underrepresented music from the North Carolina music community in the ears of the North Carolina community at large, from Ocracoke’s WOVV to Carrboro’s WCOM.  Click the link to check out some recordings of the show (dubbed The Wicked Track as a nod to the lyrics of Hiss Golden Messenger song, “Jesus Shot Me In The Head”), as well as some mixtapes done on the side.
